Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, announced that the Economic and Social Development Plan for the current fiscal year aims to increase investments in Egypt’s tourism and antiquities sector to approximately EGP 116.2 billion, compared to EGP 72.4 billion in FY2024/2025, reflecting a growth rate of 60.5%.
She explained that the private sector accounts for the largest portion of these total investments, estimated at around EGP 115.6 billion, representing nearly 99.5% of the overall investment.
The development plan also targets an increase in the number of tourists to about 19 million by the end of June, alongside raising the number of tourist nights to approximately 193 million.
Al-Mashat emphasized the strategic importance of tourism in Egypt for several reasons, including the diversity and richness of its tourist attractions, which provide the sector with a competitive global edge, making it one of the world’s top tourist destinations.
She also noted that inbound tourism to Egypt grew by 23% during the period (2019–2024), placing Egypt’s tourism sector sixth globally among the best-performing major destinations.
The tourism sector has become one of the highest contributors to economic growth and a key driver of Egypt's economic model, as outlined in the "National Economic Development Narrative."
The sector achieved a growth of 17.3% in FY2024/2025, during which the state invested heavily in tourism infrastructure, including expanding hotel capacity, attracting more than 17 million tourists during the year.
Al-Mashat further highlighted that the number of tourists had risen to 17.4 million in the fiscal year 2024-2025, up from 15 million the previous year, while the number of tourist nights increased to 179 million, compared to 154 million in the previous fiscal year.
